Family Sponsorship

In order to be eligible to sponsor family members, you must be at least 18 years old and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act. There are 2 main streams in this program:

  1. Sponsor your spouse, partner, or dependent children

  2. Sponsor your parents and grandparents

1. Sponsor your spouse, partner, or dependent children
If you sponsor your spouse, partner, or dependent children, you must be able to support them financially and ensure they don't need any social assistance from the government. There is a time period for which you are financially responsible for the individual you sponsor. Click here to view the current lengths of responsibility.
1.1 Eligibility
 
Under this stream, you can sponsor your:
  • spouse
  • common-law partner
  • conjugal parter
  • dependent children

2. Sponsor your parents and grandparents
If you sponsor your parents or grandparents, you must be able to support them financially and ensure they don't need any social assistance from the government. There is a time period for which you are financially responsible for the individual you sponsor. Click here to view the current lengths of responsibility. You must also meet the income requirements and provide proof of income.
2.1 Eligibility
 
Under this stream, you can sponsor your:
  • parents and grandparents (related by blood or adoption)
  • parents' and grandparents' spouses or partners in the case of a divorce
  • brothers and sisters (or half brothers and sisters) if they qualify as dependent children
